The original SADF Pattern 70 webbing equipment was South Africa’s specially modified derivative of the British P58 webbing used by Commonwealth nations worldwide. It is a well-designed piece of kit, legendary for its rock hard durability, that has proven itself in decades of fighting under the harshest conditions under the African sun. The South African bush wars themselves became a core part of the Cold War culture, memorialized in movies, and later video games like Call of Duty, especially the one named “Cold War” set in the 1980’s. This is the exact same kind of kidney pouches found at the back of Helen Park’s default “Coventry” skin in CoD Black Ops Cold War (see second picture). Some cosplayers use the more common British P58 pouches, which are close, but not the same. The rear kidney pouches were meant to be general purpose “large capacity” bags meant to sustain an individual soldier for ~24 hours when the larger backpack was left behind for better mobility. It was intended to hold a mess kit, hygiene supplies, and rations, all things that did not need to be immediately accessible. Some South African servicemen even recall storing machine gun belts for their squadmates. There are also 4 magazine pouches total on the top (2) and sides (2) of the kidney pouches intended for the R1 (FAL) battle rifle, as well as a removable integrated belt that can be slid off if you want to use a more game-accurate British P58 belt (P58 belt NOT included, but easy enough to find elsewhere). You will get the exact P70 kidney pouches belt kit in the pictures. It has been issued and lightly used but is intact. There are some markings on the inside from the original factory’s manufacturing process, a sign that it is an original, historical military surplus item made more for function than looks; however no marks are present on the outside. There is also a neatly wrapped spool of synthetic clothesline rope in the right side’s ammo pouch. Please see my other listings for more awesome militaria items from all modern eras.
