Bach bells are available in Sterling Plus or Raw Yellow Brass or Raw Gold Brass with optional Silver Plating in standard weight, lightweight, or heavyweight. 37 (Standard ML Bore): Rich, compact sound of great projection. 43 (Standard XL Bore): Broader, brighter, more open than 37. 72 (Standard MLV Bore): Strong, powerful sound, darker than 37. 65: Big dark, Teutonic sound. 25 (Standard L Bore): Sharper, slightly tighter with more focused projection than 37. 38 (Standard M Bore): Compact, fluid sound. Choosing Your Bell Bach Stradivarius trumpets are famous for their fullness of sounds and projection. This is achieved by the use of one-piece construction, allowing for unrestricted vibration of the bell. The shape of the tapered surface, or rate of the bell flare, determines the characteristic sound of the instrument. Bells with fast tapers produce dark, warm sounds, while slow tapers yield bright tones. Bach offers many bell options. The number designation of a Bach bell refers to the mandrel (tooling used to shape the flare) number, not to any diameter or measurement (for example, all Bb trumpet bells have the same diameter). The type and thickness of the bell material also affect the sound. Gold brass, softer and more red than the standard yellow brass due to a higher copper content (85% as opposed to 70%), results in a warm tone. Sterling Plus bells (99.9% pure silver, seamless construction) create a full complement of partials (overtones) in the tonal spectrum, for a focused sound with great projection. Lightweight bells respond quickly for a lively sound. For situations involving high dynamic levels without distortion or dark qualities, choose a heavy-weight bell (in either yellow or gold brass). Optional Bell Installation Need your new bell installed? You’re in luck! We do installation right here in our shop. For only $129.00 you can have your new bell installed on your horn by one of our skilled repair technicians and shipped back to you. The installation price includes the difference in shipping within the contiguous United States and insurance for your trumpet. This price does not include any lacquer for your new bell. Installing a new bell may leave minor cosmetic blemishes and/or solder spots that lacquer usually hides. Contact us if you’d like to have lacquer added to trumpet after installation and for shipping prices outside of the United States. Bell Trade-In Now that you’re getting your shiny, new bell do you need to get rid of your old one? We’ll give you money for your old bell! If you elect to have us install your new bell we can inspect it then. If you choose to have your bell installed at a local shop, simply send us some photos and we’ll get back to you with an offer.
